How SAF Feedstock Traceability Connects Aviation and ISCC Plus
Exploring the critical link between Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) regulatory compliance, feedstock traceability, and ISCC Plus certification.
An introductory guide to ISCC Plus sustainability and traceability certification for manufacturers, feedstock producers, and supply chains.

As global demand for sustainable products intensifies, manufacturers face pressure to verify the origin and sustainability of their raw materials. The International Sustainability & Carbon Certification (ISCC) Plus standard has emerged as a leading global framework for verifying the traceability and sustainability of circular and bio-based feedstocks.
ISCC Plus is a voluntary certification scheme covering all circular and bio-based raw materials, including agricultural and forestry biomass, waste and residues, circular plastics, and bio-derived chemicals. It provides third-party verification that materials are sourced sustainably and tracked accurately across the entire supply chain.
One of the core features of ISCC Plus is the mass balance approach. In many manufacturing processes, sustainable raw materials are mixed with fossil-based feedstocks during production. The mass balance system allows companies to track the inputs and outputs of sustainable materials mathematically, allocating sustainability characteristics to final products without requiring physical segregation.
